SGM
INTRODUCED ITS NEW PRODUCTS AT SIB 2004
Lighting
Product News Published: 14 July 2004
The SGM booth at SIB 2004 (13th -16th March) was the ideal set for
introducing two absolute novelties: the GIOTTO Spot 400 CMY moving
head fixture and the PALCO architectural projector.
Visitors were very interested in trying out the GIOTTO Spot 400
CMY and PALCO, supported by SGM’s technical staff, always
at their disposal for testing the products on show.

Moving head fixture

The GIOTTO SPOT 400 CMY is a brand new moving head projector designed
for use in high-profile entertainment applications, in concerts,
theatres and television studios.
GIOTTO SPOT 400 CMY offers the most advanced features in its class,
including 400W hot re-strike MSR lamp, 11°-22° motorized
zoom, advanced CMY colour generation system + 1 colour wheel with
6 colours and white, 2 rotating indexable gobo wheels and 1 animation
wheel, linear iris, linear frost, linear CTO filter, 1 rotating
prism, electronic ballast, absolute silent operation and cooling.
GIOTTO SPOT400 CMY is fitted with a 400W discharge lamp, used along
with an optical group that gives extraordinary luminous power (12,000
Lux at 5 m.), the ideal choice for the countless applications in
which a less powerful fixture would be insufficient and a more powerful
one excessive.
The electronic ballast (90-245V / 50/60Hz) ensures bright flicker-free
light.
The motorized 11°- 22° zoom gives beam angles otherwise
only obtainable
with more expensive fixtures.
GIOTTO SPOT 400 CMY offers lighting designers an advanced CMY mixing
colour system made of 3 palettes, which allows to obtain a uniform
light beam and an infinite range of shades, from the most saturated
to the softest colours, with efficient control of their tones;
The CMY system is integrated by a linear CTO filter and a further
colour wheel with 6 colours + white.
GIOTTO SPOT 400 CMY has a comprehensive series of features to create
a wide variety of lighting effects: 2 customizable gobo wheels (8
interchangeable rotating indexable gobos + white each), one interchangeable
animation wheel, motorized focus, linear iris, 1 multi-facet rotating
prism, etc.
GIOTTO SPOT 400 CMY was designed paying great attention to absolute
silent operation and cooling, a key priority for theatre and television
applications.
The head movement and the fixture’s internal mechanism also
have an extremely low noise level.
Cooling is via convection, thanks to the mechanical connection of
the dichroic reflector with a metal heat sink which disperses heat
towards the rear of the fixture; two very low-speed fans are only
triggered when necessary, ensuring sufficient air circulation for
perfect fixture operation even with a high surrounding temperature
(up to 50°C).
GIOTTO SPOT 400 CMY is powerful and versatile, yet compact and light
weight; in fact, the fixture can be easily transported and installed
by a single operator, thanks to the practical handles and ‘Fast
Lock’ hanging clamps.
User-friendly maintenance is ensured by facilitated head opening
and easy access to internal components; relamping can be done rapidly
without moving the lamp holder.
PALCO
LED Architectural Projector

SGM’s new PALCO is an architectural fixture for indoor and
outdoor use (insulation degree: IP65) with avant-garde technology
and unusual, particularly stylish lines that enable it to blend
harmonically into the architecture and scenarios being illuminated.
The fixture’s main innovation is its use of a series of high-power
Luxeon LEDs as a light source (with RGB colour mixing - 5 blues,
20 greens and 24 reds).
The PALCO is available with 3W (PALCO 3) or 5W (PALCO 5) Luxeon
LEDs.
The use of LED technology gives numerous advantages:
* LEDs generate ‘cold’ IR-free / UV-free light, which
doesn’t heat illuminated objects.
* LEDs have a life of approximately 100,000 hours at full power.
* Electricity consumption is proportional to the light emitted,
and less than that of traditional lamps.
* Fixtures require very little maintenance.
Interchangeable lenses (8°, 25°, 40°, elliptical 10°
x 22°) enable the PALCO to be used at various distances from
the structure being illuminated.
The PALCO is particularly bright (2,500 lumens – PALCO 5 –
a real record in the LED lighting field), suited to a wide range
of applications: 7,660 lux at 2 metres (8° lens); 3,360 lux
at 2 metres (25° lens); 1,440 lux at 2 metres (40° lens);
5,600 Lux at 2 metres (10° x 22° elliptical lens).
Colour temperature is 5,500°K; any other colour temperature
is obtainable by mixing the red / green / blue LEDs’ luminosity.
The PALCO transmits and receives on 6 DMX channels:
1) dimmer, 2) shutter, 3) red, 4) green, 5) blue and 6) macro.
On-board software is upgraded via DMX.
The built-in microcomputer has a comprehensive function menu, accessible
via user-friendly interface display: * DMX channel, * colour balance,
* effects weekly programming, * effects generation, * master/slave
function, * auto-test, * reset fixture.
The PALCO is very compact – 415mm. (H) x 380mm. (W) x 230mm
(D) – and weighs just 13.5 kg.
Pan: +/- 45°; Tilt: +15° / -70°.
