DiGiCo’s D1 made a magnificent entry in the Dutch market
as the centre of attention at the highly successful audio seminars
organized by Dutch distributor, TM Audio.
Michael Story, director and engineer with Dutch
rental company Story Sound, immediately recognized the console’s
qualities and ordered a D1 to provide the FOH mix for the current
production of musical classic Hello Dolly, featuring Dutch stars
Willeke Alberti, Jos Brink and IDOLS 2003 winner Jamai.
“The D1 is the perfect console for this
production,’’ comments Story. “The complicated
Hello Dolly audio design, with multiple monitor and aux sends
and 56 inputs, is all controlled by one console. Besides its
brilliant sound quality, easy interface and simple setup, its
small size is fantastic for theatre applications.”
The monitor aspect of the musical’s sound
design is based on various stereo side fill mixes in the props,
tracks and sides of the stage, and a number of monitor sends
for the band. The LCR FOH system can be accompanied by various
clusters or delay lines.
For easy control and setup, Story Sound engineers
Dennis [surname?] and Robert [surname?] have full control through
a wireless tablet PC, making it possible to adjust the sound
for every seat in the house and every monitor position.
“The D1 saves both seats and truck space
because all processing and effects are incorporated, negating
the use of additional outboard equipment,” adds Story.
“And the sound quality matches that of top-of-the-range
analogue consoles.”
